George, paddling a boat he built.

George, paddling a boat he built.

George Simone, a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is happy to welcome you to his Website and to announce the publication of his novella, Children of the Crane.

Shortly after arriving at Rio de Janeiro to begin a sojourn of several years, working as a chemical engineer, George discovered the delightful variety of fresh fruits and vegetables available at public markets in Brazil. On voicing his delight to his Brazilian co-workers, he was told that the blessing was recent and largely due to intensive farming on the part of a Japanese community only recently permitted to immigrate. Interesting, George thought, as he began asking questions such as: Why were the Japanese only recently permitted to immigrate? What was Children of the Crane book covertheir motivation to do so? And what of the rumors of violent in-group persecutions among the Japanese, did they come from fact or fabrication? The stories that emerged, sometimes endearing, sometimes horrifying, and always engaging, resulted in Children of the Crane; a historical romance that takes place within the net of an internecine war in which the champions of cultural fidelity draw their swords in opposition to cultural change.
